CareerTex Launched!

Textiles Human Resources Council - For Immediate Release

April 28, 2003 -- The textile industry is reaching out to young people from coast to coast with a new initiative designed to tell them about the diverse careers available for skilled workers seeking an exciting and rewarding career.

CareerTex - a bilingual and interactive online career awareness tool is being launched in conjunction with National Textiles Week (April 28 - May 4, 2003). www.careertex.ca will come online on Monday April 28, 2003. The website is designed to show youth and their career advisors what the Canadian textile industry has to offer and the educational path they need to follow to participate in today's broad and dynamic textile sector.

"We want to tell our young people about the many career opportunities available in our industry," says Adrian Spoerry, President and CEO of Hafner Inc. and Textiles Human Resources Council (THRC) co-chair. "From research and development positions to finance, from technician to project manager - the textile industry has evolved into a highly technical, dynamic place to work."

Developed by THRC, with support from Human Resources Development Canada, CareerTex seeks to:

  • Create awareness among young Canadians about the career opportunities offered by today's textile industry
  • Provide secondary students with information about potential career paths and study requirements
  • Provide post-secondary students with information they need to make decisions about textile careers
  • Foster community-wide pride and recognition of the industry's innovations and global achievements
  • Build a current and accurate image of the textile industry
  • Promote the textile industry as a viable and economically secure industry

CareerTex will achieve these objectives by showcasing the growing selection of textile products; highlighting the increased use of cutting-edge technologies throughout the industry, and providing more than 100 textile industry job profiles.

John Alleruzzo, Canadian Director of the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees and THRC co-chair points out, "National Textiles Week is about increasing public awareness of our industry's role, its accomplishments and the technological innovations that will carry us into the future. We hope that by highlighting the industry's many career opportunities for youth, we will attract the industry's future employees to create tomorrow's products."
